This past weekend a friend of mine mentioned how they thought Halloween was an evil holiday and that Christians shouldn’t participate. I think their exact words were Halloween is a Satanic holiday. I’m curious to know what you think. This Friday will you be boycotting Halloween or participating in some way (taking the kids trick or treating, going to a costume party, watching a scary movie etc.)? Comment.
We should probably get rid of the Christmas tree as well, due to rumors of roots in pagan ritual. Honestly, a lot of it is inthe boundaries you set for your children and yourself. The candy won’t help my diet, but an opportunity to gather with good friends is hard to pass up.
i think halloween is just a day to dress up and have fun.

Honestly I’m with Mr. Miller here, the Christmas tree has to go! Stupid Pagans. Come on, lets be real, the right to bear arms doesn’t mean the same thing today as it did over two centuries ago, so why should Halloween be any different. You’ll always have those that take things very literally and then there are those that RE-interpret holidays(the rest of the world) that enjoy the new “rituals” of Halloween (i.e. Candy, Haunted Houses, Scary Movies, Costume Parties, Pumpkin Carving, and giving dentists nightmares). Long live those things! GOD Bless.
We love Halloween! We don’t do the super scary stuff because Eden is easily terrified! But we do enjoy trick or treating, dressing up, and hanging out with friends and family! We have a tradition of having as many people with kids pile into our townhouse as possibly can fit and we eat pizza and chili and take tons of pictures and go out to take candy from strangers! Townhouse neighborhoods are perfect for trick or treating because the driveways are short and close together. It is easier on the toddlers that way! We will be taking Eden dressed as a Zookeeper and Addy Lin dressed as Woody from Toy Story out with their flashlights to enjoy the fun! Anyone who wants to join us, come on over!

plus, i think anti-Halloween attitudes from Christians only makes our outreach that much more difficult… same with protesting certain book series, and theme parks… it’s just ridiculous and is very counter-productive
I am in agreement — these holidays and celebrations are only as important or as ritualistic as what you decide to do with your children. What you emphasize is what will be important to your kids. They will make of it what you make of it.

In my opinion it’s all God’s period. Satan attempts to steal things that are good all the time. When he does Christians freak out and say they can’t have anything to do with it. My point is that October 31 is not Satan’s holiday…it’s God’s day. That means that if you want to dress up do it in a way that honors Christ. If you want to give out candy..don’t be cheap…give out the best candy. Represent Christ everyday of your life no matter if you are in a costume or not.

I used to feel like I couldn’t celebrate Halloween because I’m a Christian, but one day I realized that if my motives for celebrating aren’t wrong (or pagan), then why should I keep myself or my kids from something we would all really enjoy?
Halloween has never been my favorite holiday, but we always celebrate it in some way. I think it is fine and fun for the kids. They love dressing up and getting candy! I love them getting candy too because then I can sneak it! To answer your question about Brian, I don’t know him. I just stumbled upon his blog and enjoyed it. I’m new to blogging. I’m glad to find blogs that are inspiring from other christians around the USA!
Dressing up as a bee is an excellent activity, and should not be limited to one day out of the year. Especially a day that was co-opted specifically to counter the piety on Nov 1, All Saints’ Day.
I think Christians would do well to walk circumspectly, and to be in the world without being of the world. Let each one of you be convinced in your own minds, as the Spirit leads you. Let’s all walk in grace.
With all that said, I think the Saw series is evil. We should not be fascinated with torture, we should be fascinated with Jesus Christ.
I attend Family Community Church which is non-denominational. I just moved from a small town to a big city and the church is huge here! Getting used to it, loving it, because there is so much opportunity to serve.
