A Better Story

A lot of people aren’t living a very good story. The question is why?

On the one hand it’s because we are all cursed with a self destructive nature. We’ve all done things and continue to do things that aren’t good for us.

Case in point…

Now those jokers are amazing tasting but they aren’t good for you. I know that and yet if I see that “Hot Now” sign on I’m going to be like a bug to a bug zapper and get me some.

This self destructive nature has blinded us to the story we are really living. We think we are living…

When in all actuality it’s more like…

But even though we all have this self destructive nature there are still those that seem to over come it to live a good story.

Now a good story is not perfect. Perfection in fact would make a bad story.  In fact it’s stories that are filled with overcoming drama, defeating a menacing conflict, and risk taking adventure that we remember for years to come.

I believe that God wants us to live a good story.

I also believe that the church i.e. Christians play a HUGE part in that story.

I can’t help but wonder if the reason that so many people are living a poor story is because the church isn’t offering a better one?

When you think about not living for God most likely you think of fun.

When you think about living for God most likely you think of boring.

That shouldn’t be.

I think the Christian faith is to be taken serious but I think that we should also be a model for how to truly live in this world. Not in a cheesy copy of what people are doing in the world, but in a redefining authentic way. A way that leads to deep relationships, adventure, passion, and Jesus.

Living for Jesus is amazing! Christians should be having more fun, more adventure, and more tales of overcoming drama than anyone.

Our story should be so compelling it draws other people in.

You ever notice how a crowd attracts a crowd?

People want to be in on the excitement. They want to be in on the story.

I want my life to be a reflection of the greatest story ever told, Jesus. How about you?

Who do you know that lives a good story? What do you think holds you back from living a great story?

I know where the peace and joy are, and it is in Christ. My life as a Christ follower is satisfying above and beyond what I could have ever hoped, compared to the family I grew up in. I see astonishing differences in marriage, family, and relationships in general. I have given up nothing that I count of any value to serve Christ, yet that has made all the difference.

Bob Goff is someone who is better known who is living a better story.

On a more personal side, my daughter is living a better story. I’m excited to see where her story goes as she continues to grow.

I had a female doctor from Pakistan who I owe walking again to. When I thanked her she said, “It was all God’s work”. Her life of giving is a great story. My 23 year old son overcame severe asthma growing up. Since 14 years old he has taken care of me. He works in the shipyard, goes to Engineering school, totally financially cares for his Mom and his little sister while all 3 of us are in college. To top it off he doesn’t have girlfriends or dates. Saving himself for THE right one. He is a great story to me. Lastly, I met a man named Rob Shepherd a few years ago. I was in a big church trying to figure out why Jesus was with me, bringing me peace and helping me walk. I watched him, listened, felt and followed him. He’s good to everyone, patient and kind. I grow in God because of him each and every day. To help someone the way he has helped me, that’s a good story!

There is a man at my church named Doug Wornam. What a story he leads. I struggle daily to lead a great story. If I look back to my up bringing and early adult years it has done a 360 or maybe a 320.

Rob, I used to live my story based on what I couldn’t do as a believer. Now, I try to live it based on what I get to do.
